Search Engine Optimization: What does it do?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) improves the number of visitors and the quality of the visitors to a web site. When someone is searching Google or one of the other search engines for your company’s products or services, they enter keywords into the search box. Then, Google displays the websites that it believes provide the best possible match for the keywords that the searcher entered.

If your website is optimized for those keywords being searched, your website will show up near the top of the Google results page. If your website is not optimized for the keywords, your website will not be listed and more than likely, your competitor’s optimized website will be listed.

Typically, the prospective customer (i.e. internet searcher) will visit websites at the top of the Google search. If they find what they are looking for on the website, they will call the business, make a purchase online or enter details into a web form requesting more information.

Now, the internet searcher is a ‘lead’ and is ready to do business. Great news … if your company website is at the top of the Google search. Not great news … if your company website was nowhere to be found.
